My name is Natalie, I’m 25 and I live in Southampton with my partner Burly. I left uni with a 2:1 BVMedSci degree but the most important thing I actually learnt there was to try new things, make new friends and to have fun!
However, life for me has got a bit grey and sluggish recently. I am one of the 1 in 4 people who will suffer from mental illness at some stage of their life; in my case specifically depression and anxiety disorder. I was diagnosed officially about five years ago and since then, unfortunately, it has had a large impact on my life choices and well being. I’ve steadily lost confidence in myself and have become more and more frightened of life.
So, time to change things up a bit and try to take control!
I decided that I would write a blog about the challenges I face when dealing with my depression and anxiety. Sometimes what happens is funny, sometimes it’s sad (most times Quidditch will probably be involved somewhere!). At the same time I’ve decided to set myself challenges, big or small, that will hopefully help me gain my independence and happiness back. Hopefully through this blog I can become a happier and healthier person whilst raising awareness for mental illness at the same time.
If you can think of any challenges that you would like to see me do then please suggest away! Feel free to email me on firstname.lastname@example.org.
